Spending your vacation week in Galveston doesn’t have to mean going to the beach every single day (although it certainly could). If you’re traveling with a group with diverse interests, consider some short day trips off the island to indulge everyone’s tastes.
Lone Star Flight Museum
Space Center Houston on the NASA campus is very popular, but a hidden gem for those who are interested in flight is the Lone Star Flight Museum just a few miles farther up the road. The giant air conditioned hangar has 24 airplanes on display including a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Chance Vought F4U-5N Corsair. The museum houses the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame and several aircraft-focused exhibits.
Tanger Outlet Center
Airplanes are not to everyone’s interests, but with a charter bus Galveston Island TX, you can drop the shoppers off at the Tanger Outlet Center on the way. This first-class shopping experience features Calvin Klein, Disney and Nike stores. In other words, something for everyone.
First settled in 1855, the historic part of League City is as cute as they come. Stroll under the huge oak trees and pop in and out of stores, many of which are housed in charming wooden buildings. Grab a cup of coffee or some ice cream to eat in the park and watch the trains rumble by.
Port Bolivar Ferry
Even your youngest travelers will be enchanted by the ferry ride which operates 24 hours a day between Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island. You can drive your car or just walk on the ferry which takes less than 20 minutes and is free. Along the way marvel at the noisy seagulls and frisky dolphins in the ferry’s wake. You can take the trip just for the ferry ride or stay a bit in Bolivar for a bite to eat or to enjoy their beaches.
Galveston is a great place to visit, but if you need a day away from the beach, there are many exciting destinations close by.
